11/7/2023 0 Comments Pandora music player![]() Together our team of musician-analysts has been listening to music, one song at a time, studying and collecting literally hundreds of musical details on every track - melody, harmony, instrumentation, rhythm, vocals, lyrics. It's the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken. Since we started back in 2000, we have been hard at work on the Music Genome Project. To understand just how we do this, and why we think we do it really, really well, you need to know about the Music Genome Project ®. ![]() I signed up for the free trial to try to simulate it and it just doesn't seem to function, even she couldn't figure it out because she doesn't listen to music like I do.When was the last time you fell in love with a new artist or song?Īt Pandora, we have a single mission: To play only music you'll love. I add artist radios I like, and then i shuffle everything, that's the only way i listen, I very rarely (almost never) listen to just one artist/genre at a time, and I don't want to have the same songs popping up over and over like it seems to do for her, and from what I've read about 'daily playlists'. I'm this too, my wife loves spotify and all the micromanaging it seems to require, she wants me to convert over from pandora but frankly I don't see the benefit of transitioning? From my searches on here and from what she's tried to show me, it takes many many more steps (without much success) to try to do what pandora does with one or two clicks. I don’t like seeing specific artists forced down my throat and I can completely hide them in Spotify. Lastly, I mainly listen to metal and Pandora’s selection for that genre is limiting unless I hunt down specific artists/bands. So I already view Pandora as a service that old people use for their old music, whether that’s completely accurate or not. It also doesn’t help that my mother-in-law continually buys Pandora premium (on my Apple family account) when she has full access to Apple Music on her iPhone and the stations she listens to are available in Apple Music. Pandora has basic options but either assistant always seemed to freeze or play back the wrong thing when I requested something.īut that’s just me, I also need offline playback for times when I’m not connected to data. I also need better compatibility with the Google Assistant and Alexa. ![]() I need that control and Pandora just doesn’t do it. I could never use Pandora, I would hate not having some management over my library and what I listen to. But there’s different services for different people and it’s perfectly fine if Spotify doesn’t work for you. You can’t open the app, play a song, get mad when it doesn’t know you as well as another service you’ve been using for much longer, and go ¯_(ツ)_/¯ You just need to put the same effort into it as you did with Pandora. They’re updated weekly and some are made daily. Then Spotify starts making playlists for you based on different artists, genres, and moods. It will take more than a day for the service to figure you out. You can’t expect the service to know what you like without you liking content. It takes time for Spotify’s playlists to update. You can start a “station” from that song or listen to one of Spotify’s suggested playlists based on your likes. Spotify can do something similar with the same level of effort. You’re not really meant to go back to them but rather listen to stations based around those. Pandora’s library isn’t so much a library but grouping of songs you like. Don’t want to think about it? Start a station, like a song, start a station from that, and so on. Pandora is good for spoon-feeding you content. In fact, I see Spotify as inferior to Pandora. I'm about to cancel my subscription because I don't see the advantage. What am I missing? What makes this platform so great, other than a larger music library? ![]() They're not actually "stations" but playlists that rarely get updated. The same is true with Spotify's stations. But these aren't daily mixes, they are actually the same playlist that's been offered since day 1. Whenever I open the app or website, I see my "daily mixes". And, Pandora has closed the gap, library-wise.Īfter many years of peer pressure, I finally broke down and started a Spotify account this year. Hear a new song that I like, start a new station and hear even more music that's new to me. I've really enjoyed Pandora's stations as it's exposed me to music I would otherwise not have heard (especially these days with the playlists that corporate radio shoves down our throats). I initially chose this platform over Spotify because I saw Spotify as the Goliath and Pandora as David, even though I realized that Pandora's library was significantly smaller than Spotify's. I've been a long-time Pandora subscriber.
